Fun Purple 4×6 Card- Freebie Friday 4/11

Well, would ya look at that?? Freebie, on a Friday! Can it be??

I’m going to try to get them back up on Fridays, hopefully we’ll get at least 2 a month.

I have a clipping mask tutorial coming up soon, just didn’t get the tutorial recorded yet, but you can have the card to keep you happy till then.

I’m just dipping my toe into doing digital element creation (like digital scrapbooking stuff). It’s addictive, I’m having a great time! Tho I’ll never be as talented as Jessica Ditmer or Tina Parker, I can try, Right?

Anyway, Here’s the card:

phauntcardexample

Go Here to DL it:

HERE

Also, if you didn’t get the new phaunt newsletter, Registration is now open for the next round of Phaunt U!!

The price goes up after the 18th, so if you’re thinking about it, better jump in now before your spot is gone! I can’t wait to get going with a new group of students (tho I’m going to miss the current group.. *sniff*)

Have a great weekend everyone!

Simple Color Pop Tutorial and Action

I told you I’d get a tutorial up here soon! Here it is! I decided to keep it simple today, just doing some color pop/contrast adjustments and a quick action to go with it.

WATCH TUTORIAL HERE

After watching the video you can snag an action that does the steps in the store (Simple Color Pop). I also added the original SIYH in there for you if you haven’t snagged that yet.

Also, it’s been awhile since we’ve done a comments give away.. So leave me a comment and someone will win $35 to the phaunt store :)

Have a great weekend!!

Drop 50 Lbs, instantly!

HAH! bet that title got ya interested huh?

I’m sure you’ve heard how people use PS to retouch celebrities all the time and trim off pounds. Advanced retouching is an artform in itself, but using the Liquify tool in Photoshop is a GREAT way to really flatter your subjects and get rid of bulges due to bad posing/clothes/etc.

For fun I did my own little “Photoshop Diet” video.. using a photo of myself. I’m doing a total retouch, it took about 50 minutes but I sped it. You won’t be able to learn exactly what I’m doing, but you can see a few things. and it’s just fun to watch in fast motion ;)

VIEW AT YOUR OWN RISK

I also did this quick Liquify Tutorial using the same picture that will show you the very basics of using Liquify

Have fun fixing saggy bums! :)

1/26 The End of Freebie Friday???????????

AUGH!

First of all.. You all know how much I love you, right? The readers that have been with me from the beginning, and all those new to the phaunt blog.. I really really appreciate all of you so much.

But I’m really having a hard time keeping up with all the things I have up in the air right now.

The Forum (click link to go to it) is really hopping, and I am really loving the interaction with everyone. The blog is great, but on the forum I’m able to talk with people and get to know everyone. If you haven’t joined yet, COME ON OVER.. we’re all waiting.. we don’t bite… Hard ;)

I also am working HARD on launching the next big thing for phaunt actions. I can’t let too much slip on it, but it will be really awesome and I can’t wait till it’s ready.

I also just joined up with Lindsay Yates at Pay It Forward Photo (CLICK TO VISIT) to be a contributing author on the PIF blog. I posted about the blog way back when Lindsay first started it up, and it’s grown by leaps and bounds in the months since. I’m totally honored to be an author and love what the blog is all about.

I just posted a few freebies this week on the blog, so be sure to check it out and bookmark, there’s more coming from me.

On top of that, we are in transition work-wise. Long story short, the last few months everything went upside down with what we THOUGHT we’d be doing, but now we’re in a place that is totally better. Sam and I are able to work together AND bring the girls to work with us! We’re still settling in and getting things smoothed out, but as soon as I get the office decorated I’ll post some pictures of it (Just ordered some canvases from P2C and can’t wait to get them!).

SO.. with all that, I am swamped for time. I want to get a freebie/tutorial up every week, but I keep coming around and realizing it’s already Friday (Saturday) and I have nothing ready! Being the perfectionist that I am, I hate just throwing up an action without teaching something too, so I have a hard time putting stuff together.

So I guess this is all to say that there may not be a freebie every week. I WILL be posting on the PIF blog, and will try to link here every time I do so that you guys don’t miss anything that gets posted there. Be sure to bookmark PIF tho, there is some great stuff shared there all week every week.

I feel crappy for not keeping up the Freebie’s every week, but I know you all will let me slide, right?

*muah* Thanks!

1/11/08 Freebie Friday - R U Ready for This?

So.. Something Big right? Well I’m kind of scatterbrained lately. Lots of changes in our personal life. Exciting ones, but it makes for even less time at the computer!

The BIG news is going to go out later tonite via the newsletter. So if you’re not signed up yet, you better run and do it or you’ll miss out!

But today’s Freebie is going to be another contest!

This time I’m going to be giving away The FULL set of RAW Presets (For Lightroom or ACR) OR if you don’t shoot RAW you can get the FULL SIYH/Pro Pak.

To win this I need A picture from you. In this picture there needs to be a few things.

1. the word phaunt somewhere. It can be written on paper or spelled out in some other way. As long as it’s marginally legible, I don’t care how you do it!

2. It also must picture one of your addictions. You a shoe addict? A Chocolate Lover? Whatever it is I wanna see! Mine would be my nightstand full of Dr. Pepper cans (drives my husband crazy). I can’t get enough of my DP!

Make it a WEB SIZED file and send it to me at info@phauntactions.com

You ONLY have until Monday evening to enter, so this is a quick contest. And these will not be judged on technical merit, so don’t worry if you’re not a super photographer or PS user.. It’s just meant to be fun!

And be SURE to sign up for the newsletter, you don’t wanna miss out on the big announcement coming tonite :)

Freebie Freebie Bo Beebie Banana Fan Fo Feebie.. Me My Mo Meebie.. FREEBIES

Okay so you didn’t think I’d forgotten you guys did you? A bit overzealous of me to think I’d get a tutorial done this week.. with all the holiday stuff going on. BUT I do have one that I whipped up for someone really quick on saving actions.. if you want to watch it feel free…

HERE (it’s a short one..2 minutes..thats a record!)

But I couldn’t leave you guys without something for Christmas! I’ve been messing with Cross Processing stuff (if you commented last week you got 2 of the actions I’ve been playing with). These are some that I’m working on. I may do a xprocess set in the future, but for now they’re just for fun. So the First freebie for today is:

wiggitywhack

My personal fave is the Wiggity Whack Pink.. Very cool. It has 3 Xprocess actions, and then teh Sharpidy action adds some grit/hardness to the image. Have fun experimenting.. Let me see what you do!

Go to the Store/Freebies to download the Xprocess. They will only be up until after Christmas (or whenever I get around to taking them down next week). So don’t miss them!

And because I know there is some Elements users that frequent the blog, I didn’t want to leave you guys without a Christmas gift.. so I put up this frame too: (and yes, that’s me.. I’m soooo serious huh? :D)

grungeslide

It’s 5×7 sized, just use the clipping mask to insert (see the PDF for instructions on how to do that). Again, it will only be up till after Christmas, so don’t miss it!

And last but not least, I wanted to share our Christmas Card..

Freebie Friday 12/14- Batching 101

Today I’m going to do the first of a series on how to use the Batching feature in Photoshop. If you thought actions saved you time, wait till you learn how to batch!! This is just the basics, but I’m hoping it will help you get started and I’ll do the more advanced steps for next week.

You’ll actually want to download the actions BEFORE watching the video this week, that way you can work along with me. So go to the Store/Freebies section and get the phaunt Batch Intro Actions.

batch

After you have them downloaded/installed, then watch the tutorial here:

HERE HERE HERE HERE :)

And please forgive the insane screaming children in the background..that’s just normal sounds around my house ;)

Don’t forget to sign up on the group buy (HERE) if there’s any phaunt actions you’ve had your eye on.. these are the best prices you’ll see on the actions! The buy is only open till 12 midnite tonite, so don’t miss out!

And leave me a comment.. I’ll pick 2 winners this weekend.. I forgot about last week..:p

Have a good weekend!!!

Freebie SATURDAY 12/8

Sorry about the delay.. Nothing more than me not getting things done in time to post.. I’m slow!

Today I’ve got a video tutorial with a few quick tips on using card templates.. you can view it here:

QUICK TEMPLATE TIPS

Then download the template I’m using HERE

christmascard

It can be changed to different colors, so it doesn’t have to be a Christmas card. All the elements are customizeable.

That’s it for today.. Hope you’re all getting your Christmas shopping done and geared up for the season!

Leave me a comment.. I’ll leave it open till Tuesday.. This weekend’s winner will get something super special from me.. so don’t forget to leave me a comment! :)

Freebie Friday 11/30 Shadow Blasting!

SHADOW/HIGHLIGHT

This is one of those tools that you may not have even known existed! It wasn’t until I had been using CS2 for awhile that I stumbled on the Shadow/Highlight tool. It’s a great quickie tool to find detail in your photo that you had given up on, and it’s super easy to use!.

You just need a bit to set up the photo, then you’re ready to go. First off, create a duplicate layer of the photo that you’re working on. Press CTRL+J for the shortcut, or go to Layer-Duplicate Layer.

We’re doing this so that we can later adjust the opacity of our adjustment and add a layer mask if needed. If we run the Shadow/Highlight adjustment without doing this, we’ll be altering our backgroundlayer/original, which is not good..

Say it with me: “I will not mess with my Background Layer. I will not mess with my Background Layer.” Now don’t forget it! :D

-On a side note, if you’re using CS3 you can just use a Smart Filter instead of duplicating the background layer and adding a mask, but I’m in CS2 still, so need to take this step-

Okay, So that’s our setup.. now all we need to do is go to Image-Adjustments-Shadow/Highlight.

clip_image002

Basically what this adjustment does is look at all the pixels and differentiates what is shadow and what is highlights. It then will add lightness to the shadow area (or bring down the highlight area, depending on what you do in the sliders). Photoshop automatically puts the Shadow lightening at 50%, but most of the time that is too much, so you’ll probably want to pull it down to anywhere from 15% to 40%. You can watch your photo and see how it looks to gauge where you want to put it.

clip_image004

Now simply press “OKAY”, and then you can adjust the opacity of the layer to make the results more natural. If you are seeing some color shifts, you can always change the blending mode of the layer to “Luminosity”.

I use this step a lot to bring out detail in darker areas of a photo. A good tip is to do your shadow adjustment, invert the mask, then only paint in the areas you want the details to be “revealed” this way you really can fine tune your adjustments.

So in a matter of a minute here’s our before/after:

clip_image005

This week’s freebies are in the Store in the Freebie’s Section. It’s a set of 4 actions. The Quickie Shadow Blaster actions are simply going to do the duplicating/mask creation for you, and boost by the specified amount (15, 25, or 40). The Shadow Blaster Supreme is my own specially tweaked action to really lighten dark areas. If you have a really dark area, use this one, then you can flatten and layer another shadow adjustment on top. Experiment to see what works best!

Don’t forget to leave a comment/question/suggestion/whatever Winner gets a $30 Gift Certificate to the store!!! And don’t forget to snag the shadow blasting actions, they’ll be gone in a week!

Have fun!

phaunt Returns!

Hello everyone!!

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and had time to hang out with family! Are you getting ready for Christmas? Lilly has already sent 3 letters to Santa, just in case he forgets what she wants :D

Here’s a few pics from our Holiday… I didn’t really shoot much, just grabbed the camera a few times…

Sam (far left) and his brother and Dad.. all zonked out after watching football..

Lilly and her cousin Audrey (they’re just a month apart) in the bath tub. They played so well together, we hardly saw them the whole time we were there, they were off in their own little world.

So.. I’m back and ready to go! I’ll be talking a bit about things in store for the blog/store/phaunt actions soon, so be sure to check back and see what fun things are in store!

Winners for the comments:

The winner of the $35 for Freebie Friday is Rene!

You all made it way too hard to pick a winner of the Pro Pak.. every comment was heartfelt and totally deserving to win! I’m emailing everyone who commented with a gift certificate because I hardly feel like I can’t give you all SOMETHING!

That said, the winner of the Pro Pak is:

Robyn Guy!

Your comment really hit home for me. I was reminded of how precious and important what we do as photographers is this holiday season. Our first without our nephew, Luke, who passed away in July. Sam’s parents have a large canvas print of a picture I took of Luke hanging in the stairway of their home. Every time I passed it I was able to remember his sweet spirit and realize how much he meant to us. Thank you for sharing your thoughts Robyn!

Robyn and Rene, email me at info@phauntactions.com to claim your prize :)

A few things to watch in the store:

  • Sales going on on the SIYH Pak, the Pro Pak, and the Bundles right now.. at least 15% off on all of them, going on thru Christmas
  • New Bundle available for the SIYH AND Pro Pak, save if you buy them together (also on sale right now!)
  • The new store look will be updating in the next few days, so don’t miss it!

Have a great week everyone!
